All those Chevies in the junk yards, pick-up truck sized parts, can't get any cheaper than that. Heck, buy a whole running M-1008 Blazer for $1500 from Gov Liq. It would be an auto with a married transfer case. That's a pretty hi-revving diesel, and who is going to drive a FFPW another 200,000 miles anyways?
I don't know what other tranny combos were available from the factory, possibly an NV 5 speed? But the Chevy v-8 diesel bolts up to all the chevy parts in the world.
