Condition 1 is standard procedure for military and law enforcement, ie. round in chamber, hammer in fire position, safety on. I think this is fine for people who have a real expectation of emergency situations. For people who are willing to do a little training I don't think there is much of a safety issue since there are two safety systems on the 1911. (your holster should be correct for the 1911) For most people, especially those who might have children at home and have a tendancy to take their gun off and set it down some place like their night stand or glove box I would suggest no round in chamber. I think you have to honestly evaluate your individual circumstance and decide accordingly. Also there were changes made between the model 70 and the model 80 that corrected some of the risk of accidental firing if dropped.
