Unfortunately, I must disagree with you both.

I'm not talking about telling you what to drive or unfairly taxing anyone.

What I am talking about is the basic recognition that oil is a finite resource and we had better start moving toward a long-term conservation stance.

The days of the wild west where everyone just does whatever they want are over.

If the real costs of oil were being factored into the price (think Iraq war) then non of us would be able to afford to buy gasoline.

Given that it's a finite resource, wouldn't you agree that it would make sense to conserve it rather than just piss it down a drain driving low mileage vehicles with one person in them?

That's where mandated increases in fuel economy come in...

What will be the true cost later when the supply is gone?

Will each of look back and think "man it was really stupid pissing all of that gas down the drain at 8 mpg for my day to day driving..."?
