If your truck is a full-time it is a W100.If it has lock-outs,which didnt start till late 79,early 80 then its a W150.The 9 1/4 was used from around 74-up.The difference is the 4-1/2 0r 5" wheel bolt pattern.All pre 74 PWs were 100s,but they had the 5 1/2 bolt pattern also.Most rear axles on those were the 8 3/4s.All were equiped with 44 fronts.Im not positive on the spring differences,but have yet to see a difference.I am sure the 78 you have should be classified as a W100.It should have a 203 transfercase and the small 4 1/2 bolt pattern wheels and should be a full-time 4x4.
