That's funny, I thought I remembered you being a gun control guy. Anyway, it's good for you and Norm to warn the rest of us about how much worse things are in other states. I too try to patronize the local shops, but sometimes you just can't. I just paid $25 at the local hardware store for a sheet of plywood that I know I could get for $15 in Cd'A.
His lumber's expensive, but his guns are cheap ($99 Yugo SKSs were last year's special) and he does FFL transfers for free. He's got everything from $69 Russian Mosins to new AR-15s and lots of modern rifles and pistols, all cheaper than I've ever seen on the Internet, and yet it's just a sideline to the hardware store. It's a funny thing about guns -- we have no gun restrictions beyond the federal laws, except for concealed carry (you can have Browning machine gun if you're willing to go through the federal investigation), most people have at least one gun and lots of people have lots of guns, and yet in the 10 years I've been here, there have been only two murders in the whole valley, and neither involved a gun. Both were drunken domestic fights. Hardly anyone locks their door and nothing gets stolen. A store got burglarized last year and the Sheriff's department treated it like the crime of the century.
It's funny how we have lots of guns here and almost no crime, and yet a place like Washington DC, where guns are basically illegal, is drowning in robberies, murders, rapes, and assaults. Of course if they suddenly let all the good guys in DC carry guns, there'd probably be a fair bit of bad guy blood spilled before the criminals found out that the good old days were over.
Myself, I'm still hoping to come across an M14 as the perfect accessory for my M43, but they seem to be very scarce and way out of my budget.
