They have a large container of sand set up over a custom made LP heater manifold. It kind of looks like a very large blacksmith's forge or a charcoal barbecue.

They bury the cast parts to be welded in the sand and heat the whole pot with the LP flame overnight. The next day, they remove the hot cast part, weld it, and stick it back into the hot sand. The flame is turned off and the part is left buried there for however long it takes to cool down.
