Corn feed venison would still be part of original food chain, lots of waste though as only a percentage of the deer get harvested.

Some of the public lands around here get farmed on a share basis. The farmer harvests his share in the fall and leaves the rest in the field. March 1st he can salvage whats left. Not much of this anymore as the public lands are getting seeded to native grasses, it's better feed for the wildlife than the corn.
