I've never gotten better than 8 on either of them, and that was in highway driving the inter-axle drive line removed, and keeping the speed below 45 mph. Part of the problem is probably that I don't match the tires in each pair all that well. I make an attempt, but I don't want to spend all day swapping them around between multiple trucks. Part of the problem is that I like to go 55 or 60 mph on the flats, and I've turned up the fuel screw on the injector pumps one full turn, which took my turbo boost from 10-12 psi up to 15+ psi. Another factor is probably that I don't have your hubs on my front axles. Yet another factor may be that I'm running 85W140 oil in all the gear boxes. If it was just one truck that got this poor fuel economy, I'd say there was something wrong with it, but both of my good highway-worthy M35s (both with LDT465-1C engines) are the same. If you know of any other tricks to improve the mileage, I'd love to try them before I head out on this next $500 trip.

The interesting thing is that I usually get about 6 mpg on an average trip empty or lightly loaded, and yet when I have a heavy load, it's not much below 5 mpg. By "heavy load", I mean towing another M35 the whole 400 miles including over the mountains, which I've done twice, or hauling a load of chains with a combined truck and trailer GVW of 31000 lbs.
