Unless the OD is some type of aftermarket unit it is part of the transmission. The T-handle on the dash is indicative of OEM equipment although not a sure sign. Not applicable to the 420 to my knowledge. Should not be a problem with the transfer case since it should be part of the 3 speed tranny. I think it is only used in 3rd gear but I never was around one very much so I could be wrong about that. HTH.
