The gas in the tanks in the ground was already purchased some time ago by the retailer at the previous/lower rate.
Just because the per barrel price of crude jumped, the oil industry automatically retroactively charges everyone the "current" rate irregardless of what the actual gas commodity cost the retailer. One would hope it would take time for this price increase to trickle down to the consumer, when existing stocks are replenished with the higher priced product, but then again, maybe I am an idealist :)
When the price of a barrel of crude goes down suddenly, don't you notice that the price paid by us at the pump creeps down SLOWLY.
