m37 start up

Hi all i am trying to get my m37 running I just installed a rebuilt motor and starting it for the first time I had the timing off 180 when it back fired it sent the dip stick flying out of the block. I reset the timing with the mark on the pulley and rotor pointing at #1 wire but i just cant to seem to get it right
