I'm not really talking about a swap here. Maybe I'm not being clear, my wife says that about me. I'm really just trying to gain a deeper understanding of what creates an industrial engine versus an automotive. I'm really talking about engine design differences and why.

You say they are detuned? why? Heavier rods, different cams, hydaulic lifters and smaller valves. Probably a stupid question but why would a constant duty industrial engine need those changes? Is it because the engine will get more hours or something? It would seem to me that an engine running at a single selected rpm (that it was designed to run at) would receive less abuse than an engine that has to run at a wide range of rpm's, but maybe I'm missing something.
