Stromberg WW

Hey, I'm rebuilding the Stromberg WW from a 1966 or so 318. On the throtle body(lower portion) of the carb there are 2 holes that go from outside straight into the throat of the carb. They supply Unfiltered air directly in and comes out just above the butterflys. They are not mentioned in the carb kit and apparently are supposed to be that way. Can anyone give me any clue why they are there and what's the deal ? Thanks, Mike C.
