Your timing is fowled up. You need a total advance timing light to time total advance. You will need to turn the RPMS up to about 3000rpms and then adjust the timing. Your vacuum method wont work for total advance. That method in my experience always jacks the timing way up if you are at idle watching the gauge and turning timing to acheive the highest vacuum. Not always the best setting comes from that. I can adjust my one 440 to get up to 20-22vacuum and it will barely move itself out of the driveway it runs so bad.
If you dont have a total advance timing light then start backing off the timing and go for a drive. Loosen the dist. nut a little turn the dist. counterclockwise a tad and go for a drive. Keep doing this until you find it not pinging on aceleration. You may also have to go to a higher octane fuel. You may also have to adjust the vacuum advance on the dist. as well.
