the dyno is a great diagnostic tool under load you can check a variaty of problems coolings systems, manifold vacum, oil pressure ,oil leaks, timing curves and advances emmisions ect .on the diesil turbo boost, line (fuel)rail presures injector performance and a great deal of no power complaints, in both gas and diesil a comprehensive dyno test would normaly take between two and two and a half hours for a complete "work up and test results" THE DOWN SIDE of a dyno test is what i call the china syndrome, holly did you see that fan come apart and take out that rad or wow that drive shaft had her hoppin after she let loose!! long story short things can and will some, times come apart while "loading" on the dyno!! personaly fans rank first, stones and other debris get sucked out of rads and take out windshields, fire is another high risk factor espceaily if you have a grimmie engine or you spring a oil leak ocassionally a valve will drop rods come out of blocks and on the diesil side. one turbo, came apart totaled the engine in seconds and i had two big rig runaways a 6 71 detroit ( it picked up lube through a cylinder) puff /turned 3750 before it blew engine and fly wheel.you should have seen the look on my face after i smashed the fuel filters off with a sledge hammer and it kept running then i started running and a D T 466 just climbed away when the pump siezed in full fuel(rusa master injection) the dyno has it purpose but it is NOT with out risk so justify it, use with caution or deep pockets
