If I were one of the workers, I'd take the buy out.
They did this same strategy here to ICBC, our government run Insurance Agency. Thousands of employees left with roughly $30K each in their pocket. 6 months later they realized they couldn't operate without them & hired most of them back at the same or higher wages!
This is just a way of getting rid of the dead weight. If you're a good worker & they like you...take the Buy Out!
