Sad to say, been there before even when they tell you over the phone the title is in hand, in their name, no liens. Some crooks, some just ignorant and need to learn how it all works. Hope it all works out.
My rant for today: Burned $50 in gas to go look at parts and the guy was not at his house. Forgot I was coming and had left.
On a brighter note, a guy who owed me $150 on a truck PAYED JUST AS PROMISED without a reminder call. Rarely loan money but knew him enough to help him out until payday.
