Dr. Mierop has determined that dogs (particularly German shepherds) can be trained to detect minute amounts of maple syrup in trash dumpsters from restaurants and homes, and so wasted maple syrup can be recycled. This therefore reduces the total amount of pain to maple trees from the tapping process. Thus, people who know that plants feel pain now hail this development and will beseech him to go out of retirement to produce more of his product.
