I finally made it and what an ordeal. The easy part was getting the furniture truck we loaded to the island. I ended up paying over 2000 bucks for the trailer, ferry fees, and labour, but I still saved over 3000 dollars by not using a moving company. Thank goodness I work for a trucking company. Like I said getting to the farm was just fine even though it was very cold and very wet. The house is built to lock up and I was planning on putting everything into the basement so we could finish off the upstairs with no obstructions. We had a look at the incline to the back doors and decided against this as the downhill stretch was all grass( We might be able to get the tractor trailer down the hill but I don't think it was coming back up), so we decided to move everything through the front door. Dave hopped in the truck drove to the field to turn it around and low and behold he got stuck.
My brother in law Doug brought in his four wheel drive tractor, but to no avail,we needed his neighbours backhoe to give a helping hand. With both vehicles hooked together we were able to get the hwy. unit free. We managed to get everything off the trailer and into the house in record time. While I was parking my Goldwing the tractors and backhoe hooked up and pulled our tractor trailer to safety.
Once my friends and family had left I plunked myself down in my brother inlaws house and downed 5 double rye and gingers before starting on the hot toddies. Ah what a relief.
Next time I am back here will be near the end of January and it will be with a 48 PW and it will be for good. Eight more days of work, I can't wait. lol
Happy New Years everyone.
