Not too long ago you could buy plastic sealed battle packs of, I believe 400 rounds, if I am not mistaken. The cost was $45 to $50. At a recent gun show I attended the cost was $100 for the same item. All dealers were priced that high.
I asked one of them why and he said that it was very hard to get, and that the war in Iraq was the main cause. I am not sure that makes sense to me, since the modern military is not sourcing its supplies from surplus ammunition, but that was his idea.
It is expensive.
