I went around and around with the folks at craigslist about this issue. My gripe with them was "what about cities that are located next to each other that are on different boards?"
Their reply was interesting:
Their philosophy is craigslist is designed to facilitate transactions in your local area. They were very clear about not wanting to include a global search feature because they don't want folks shipping or commuting to pick something up... The idea is to minimize the impact on the planet and resources and instead support your local markets.
Right or wrong, that is their philosophy and there was no swaying them...
They had even blocked google from crawling their site for a long time...
Believe me, it has been discussed. In my case the thread was a week long with the powers that run it...
