If for some reason you want to run an automatic, and you can fit it between the motor and transfer case (I guess a married NP205 is still best), the gearing problem still exists at high speed. Then, your only alternative is a Gear Vendors NP205 unit. The ratio for the GV is 0.78:1, which would imply that rpms at 60 if 3rd gear locks up the torque convertor would be 1935 with the 11.00-18s. The GV only works in 2WD. It goes on the rear output of the TC. It's expensive; about $2000-2300. They have a Net site.
BTW: I know you are planning on 11.00-18s. Have you purchased the adapters and wheels and tires yet? The would seem good for offroad in terms of traction, clearance and better ride than 9.00-16 NDs. But if I wanted 40-41" tires, I'd get a set of Michelin 335/80R20 XZLs. They are 40.7" tall, about 13.2" wide, have an aggressive tread but run quiet and cool and last much longer than the directional XL tread. And they are quite safe on rainy pavement. If you had them siped the first 5-6/32", they'd be great on ice as well. I have a set of 8.25R16 XZLs (34" tall) on a Landcruiser BJ60 diesel 4 door wagon. They are siped, and were really good on Anchorage street ice last winter. I suppose if you've already invested in the tires you could have them siped, since you may have a truck capable of running 65-70 mph. And don't forget the disk brakes in the front.
