If you like to do some of the harder stuff a "lock-right" is the ticket. It won't keep you from breaking axles if your careless. A cuple years one of the experienced 4 wheelers in an M37 with a locker broke a shaft on a steep slippery climb with one wheel suddenly coming to grip. It was his first in many years, but he was able to complete the trip.
I have the front and rear on one of my flatfenders, and would recommend rear only for 95% of users.
In the rear I have observed more tire wear. When you make sharp turns on pavement there is some "bucking" in the drivetrain, depending on how loose the propeller shafts are. Depressing the clutch in those cases takes care of it.
Locker=yes, but I get great pleasure out of the stock trucks with open diff's. They tend make one a better trail driver and occasionly can show others what a low tech vintage ride can do.
