The postwar Power Wagons are far more of a work truck than the 1/2 ton WC's. The are heavier, stronger, and will carry heavier loads. If you plan on working them hard, go with a postwar.

The 1/2 ton WC's, on the other hand, are genuine military trucks. If you want a military vehicle, then go with one of these.

Be advised that sheetmetal in good condition for the 1/2 tonners is getting scarce. Particularly the proper military closed cabs.

As another poster noted, the 1/2 ton WC's have 4.88 gears, in a weaker housing. With 9.00x16's, you can get up to 55 mph with no problem. One major drawback is the single speed transfer case. That means no low range. This limits off road ability.

You did not mention the 3/4 ton WC. I assume it is because you don't want an open cab style weapons carrier, but more of a working truck for hauling gravel and such. If so, have you considered an M37. While it is a ragtop, it is much closer to a pickup. It is every bit as capable as the postwar PW. It may haul less, but is a bit better for offroad. Parts are still abundant and reasonably priced, unlike the 1/2 tonners. You can find hard tops for them if that is an issue.
