Steve Wataha of Rock Springs, Wyoming has done this with a few trucks. He has used the 12-volt VW sending units on 6-volt trucks. The only thing that the sending unit does is vary resistance through the arc of the float travel. The original 6-volt Dodge sending units had similiar resistance readings to the 12-volt VW units. You will have to play with the arc of travel of the VW unit to get the right resistance range for FULL and EMPTY readings.
