Rob, I'm getting a NP540 from a 57 D500 and want to put it in my 64 W100 TWPW with a 318p. I have the NP435 (1" 10 spline shaft?), so if I here you right it is a straight bolt in if I get the 1-3/8" 10 spline clutch and pressure plate. Can I put the 12" clutch in, or do I really need it. These clutches seem fairly heavy duty already, but I want to pull an Airstream. Also I hope the 57 540 has the same ratios you have. I have that long gap between 3rd and 4th in the mountains and having the 4.05 2nd sounds good for start-up with a heavy load. Do you start in 3rd gear without a load? I see 3spds with about a 2.5 1st gear. I have the 4.1 pumpkins.
