Carb Question

I have a 78 half-ton swb Power Wagon with the factory 318/2 barrel
and 4 speed. I need help concerning the stock 2 barrel Carter
carb. It runs terrific but if it sits for over 1 hour or so, it
is very hard to start. I have found that all the fuel is draining
out of the carb due to the needle and seat leaking. I have put a
new needle and seat in the carb and it still does this. Let me
clarify that I suspected this was the problem so I put a CLEAR
inline filter between the fuel pump and carb and, as I suspected,
the fuel filter is completely dry in several hours. Due to the
design of the Carter 2 barrel (the needle and seat at the very
bottom and front of the fuel bowl) this will happen if the needle
and seat are leaking. Most carbs I've rebuilt have the fuel inlet
in a different location so that if they leak, you don't drain
your entire carb of all it's fuel. Can I simply run a rubber fuel
line from my fuel filter to the carb and give it enough slack so
as to put part of the fuel line higher than the fuel bowl to keep
it from draining out? I must say that the carb performs flawlessly
when I finally get fuel to it (usually by pouring some in the
carb manually every morning). The fuel pump is new as well as
fresh carb kit. Has anyone else had this problem or have any good
suggestions?
