My opinion:
If you are just driving around town for fun, the winch is of no value other than appearance. The winch is heavy and will add to steering effort and increase fuel consumption.
If you plan to do some heavy off roading or pull people out of snowdrifts and mud bogs, by all means install the winch.
I've only done trail riding and desert off roading. I've never had an occasion to need a winch.
In my experience, adding the $1000 winch will only increase the value of the truck $750 or less. Don't install it and expect to make more money than it cost.
