the gmc gets a real 14mpg - i imagine the dodge gets 18 mpg - you would know better. 4 mpg difference for this example. if you drive 10000 miles you buy 714 gallons in the gmc 555 in the dodge * 3.309 diesel vs 2.99 gas (both the current doe fuel averages)

so you get 555* $3.309 or $1838 diesel and 714 *2.99 or $2134 for gas. each 10000 miles costs $296 more so each 100000 miles costs a gasser $2960 more. if i drive 200000 miles it costs me 6k more in fuel, but im likely 12-15k below list on my purchase. also the 2960 is eroded by the higher cost of maint (oils & filters etc for the dodge + the other incidentals we know happen with the dodges. dont forget to count all of the obligatory doodads most dodge people add to 'monitor' and bump up their trucks.

even if the dodge cost me less (or was free), it would get used less then my gmc. too much sacrifice (avoiding parkways) to have a diesel sticker on my rig. the diesel suburban with a duramax is an alternative too but ive gotten such good service with the gassers i dont want to push it.

realistically, i could buy used a first gen cummins for 'real' truck use, run my gmcs forever and still come out ahead. i know it might be seen as blasphemy here but dodge missed the boat big time by not making a suburban.

btw i checked on making a megacab into a surburban. add the list price of the megacab + 50k, wait 24 months and you are home free. add to the 50k if you want the stock creature comforts that come in the gmc.
