During my racing days it was often said that someone was "pulling the chunk out of their 9 inch"(read into that what you will). I always refer to it as the "carrier".
My spin:
1st: housing
2nd: axles
3rd: gears(carrier)
Dwight(no chunks in my 9 inch)
