Yes, they will go 50 mph with standard 5.83 gearing. I put 4.89s in mine and I can do 55...but the problem is not only how fast you can go, but how well you can stop. The brakes tend to not work well (although I guess they can be ok if properly adjusted which is not easy). The front wheels can shimmy after hitting a bump...again this is probably partyly due to excessive wear).
But basically, these trucks were never designed to go very fast.
