I think I've located a 540 in the local junkyard that looks to be in pretty good shape. However, the guy that runs the yard INSISTS it is a four speed. SO I was wondering if there is any way of positively identifying it from the outside using the casting numbers or such. I'm hoping that since he couldn't find a fifth gear that it is one of the rare overdrive models, because of thier peculiar shift pattern.

This tranny is in a late sixties early seventies Dodge bus behind a small block v8.
It has:
13" case length
One 6 bolt PTO opening on either side.
and these two numbers on the side somewhere (can't remember exactly where)
C-97292,
C-92581Y

Thanx

Dylan
