There's a bunch of VC images out there which all seem to be 4th of July parades, from Alaska down to the deep south.

Those VC5s date to around March / April 1940, so they could be out there 4th July 1940, or same time following year. In 1942 you'd expect more "modern" trucks and helmets I think.
