I think Marty is right. We must do what it takes to survive in this world. Cheap labour has been around for thousands of years. How do we think our railroads were built and our farms tilled. It wasn't all us pilgrims doing it. People were brought to our countries against their wills by owners who needed cheap plentiful labour. Now that we are a world economy with fast moving transportation we don't have to bring the labour to our countries we just have to order it direct. lol.
We will survive if we have the will too. We just may have to move to smaller cottage type industries again. Ones that supply the needs of the people in a more localized form. I do think we should keep an infrastructure of industry though. How else can you switch over to mass war production if and when it is necessary. You don't see the Germans or most European countries in general selling out their heavy industry companies.
Marty was saying he hasn't built a ship in 20 years, just repairs and refits. We had three new ferries built for our inland coastal fleet and we had to go to Germany for them. You can't tell me they are not subsidized.
Anyway we will survive and I can only say buy good quality product no matter where it is built. Just don't settle for cheap crap even if it means a few more dollars out of your pocket.
Brian
