You must be thinking of some other PS Conversion. With a Saginaw Box, If you break a hose, you loose all assist but still have manual steering.

Self centering is there, it can be increased by adding more caster. I have read where some people have added + 4 degrees and are very happy.

I have no problem with it on my trucks
