I live in the flatlands of Brentwood, Ca. and have a getaway place in Columbia Ca. the Gold Country. I plan on driving it at both places.
I work for the F.D. here and 25 years ago we had a Van Pelt truck that was 35,000 lbs. with an articulating boom and had a Spicer 8 Speed transmission. The overtimers would raise hell when they had to drive it, they would call it that "square tooth M-Fer. They would take it out and train on it during the day to get the hang of it then at night we would go on a call and it was like they never driven it before. We would be coming around a corner and they would miss a gear and we would end up coasting to the scene all the same time we were giving him the business. We coasted to many fires in that rig.
Once you got the hang of it though it drove nice. It would shift fine as long as you shifted it her way.
I'm guessing the sliding gear transmission in the P.W.'s are the same. Thanks.
