My favorite story about BMW and MErcedes is that an acquaintance took his Mercedes in to the dealer for service...tune up and oil change, etc. He also told them he needed a new fuel tank cap; he had lost his.
When he got the invoice for the work, he saw that they charged him a separate line item for labor to put a new gas cap on!
He raised cain and they backed off on that one.
Talk about German chutspah!
My wife drives an 01 BMW. It is nice and well made, but everything on it is pricey too. About the only thing I attempt to do on it is change the oil, which is all synthetic.
