With some minor exceptions (WWII Military trucks for example) the tailgates on Dodge trucks were stamped starting in the 30s at least, and the very first WDX got a stamped gate as far as I know.

The gate in question, the 2nd and 3rd series PW gate was stamped from the start, 1951.

That gate was used on 2wds starting in 1948, and those were also stamped from the start.

I have never seen a pre 1970 truck with its original 3 hinge PW 2nd/3rd series gate that was not stamped. I do see a lot of replacement unstamped gates, as they were made until 1985, and lots of people bought them as replacements.
