Wood. Doug fir that is properly oiled will work just fine. To test, I put a 3000lb point load (tractor bucket) and the wood held up fine. No movement to speak of on the wood or steel bed frame. Or suspension. For $30 I cant see how anything else could be better. Even if I had to replace it every 25 years, thats fine.
