George, the foam backing is beginning to deteriorate and letting the cloth fall. Nothing you can do to save your original material. Take the car to an automotive trim shop, they will have a replacement material that will be applied to your original board with spray adhesive. You can remove the headliner yourself, clean off all of the old material. Then take in the bare board to them and save a few bucks. This is a very common occurrence on vehicles in hot climates. It just takes longer for the foam backing to deteriorate in Michigan. The Dealer I used to work at could get the headliners relined at a cost of 35$ carry in. Expect to pay 120/150$ if you take the vehicle in.
