I agree it would be quiet, but also very heavy with a whole ambulance body full of that stuff. Might as well just pour molten lead down in between the walls. Since most of the noise on these old trucks comes through the floorboards and firewall anyway, I don't even know that insulating the body would quiet it down all that much. As it is, an M43 empty is pushing hard against 8000 lbs, which is an awful lot of weight for a 230 to haul around. Since I do want it to be a practical camper as well as a restored ambulance, I think I will try some sound deadening on the firewall -- maybe spray-on on the engine side and some 1/2 thick heavy mil-surp foam stuff on the passenger side.
