I bought a small parts washer from Harbor Freight for the parts that could fit in it.
For my axle housings, I brought them to a machine shop that has a hot tank. They placed them in as much as they could fit, ran them, then flipped them around and did the other end. Both housings came back sparkling clean. Not a spec of grease or oil on them. To me, a hot tank is the way to go. Check with a local machine shop. Mine did my parts for very very cheap.
