We admire/idolize actors, ballpalyers, rock stars, some politicians, etc while there are soooooooooooo many others out there that we should appreciate, support, and try to emulate in some way, their efforts to contribute to society.
Joining the Fire Dept was something I often thought of doing. It wasn't until I rented out a room in a Vietnam Vets home while attended college did I actually join.
He put his life on the line duing his tours of duty. The least I could do was give something to the new community that I was living in.
After my first real working fire, I felt more worthy of living in his house.
All of those who give time in some way to assist others, have earned my admiration and support.
