Just saw a presentation by a CDF (Ahem) CalFire fire prevention specialist who had a slide (Ahem) power point image of a ridge top neighborhood surrounded by eucs. All the houses were burned out and the eucs didn't even show signs of being singed.
Also saw an old resort round house back home that was once and is now again surrounded by eucs. Still puddles of glass in the ruins.
Evidently more homes burn after the flame front burns past. Appears the embers pile up like snow in corners and cracks, then the house ignites, after the flames have passed.
Fortunate and unfortunate alike, look into your local fuels management programs.
