When I worked as a front end mechanic, we would first wash up in bulk motor oil to get the really gooey, grimey stuff off.

I suppose any vegetable oil would work as well.

Hmmm, soy bean oil in your solvent tank?

I think I'll put a bottle of corn oil next to the sink so I remember to try it next time I'm inside the gears.
