Using silicone and tightening the gasket down before the silicone has set will cause the gasket to squeeze out. Don't over tighten, leave it loose and then finish tightening the next day.
I no longer use silicone after reading about its damaging abilities when used incorrectly. The instant 1 minute sealer in a can, called the "right stuff" I think, looks like a cheese whiz can is the best.
I put a third mamber in and was not able to get it out it held so tight. I finally had to remove the cover and use a brass drift and hammer to drive it out.
