I'd lean more toward the 50,000 to 75,000 miles for an average.
While some may very well last 300,000, that is the extreme high end.
The variables are owner care and maintenance and the fact that mechanical tolerances and technologies were not as good in those days. Metallurgy, machine tolerances and bearing technology makes 50,000 to 75,000 miles, just about the limits.
This was true even into the late 1960's.
Now, if a bunch of guys want to start a thread "I got 200,000 miles out of my truck", that is fine, but we are talking about the average motor with the average use and average maintenance habits of the 1950's.
