Another W-100 question

The front axle on the 57 W-100 is, I believe, a Dana 44. Correct me if I am wrong. The ball ends are similar to the corporate Flat Fender front axles. My 57 shop manual does not include anything on the Dana axle, only the WDX style one. I have rebuilt the WDX axles and am very familiar with them but have not done anything with the Dana.
Has anyone got the rebuild specs on this axle?
I failed my state inspection yesterday, due to too much play in the ball, the shop owner suggested that possibly removing some shims would tighten it back up. He did not feel it was really a safty issue at this point but I still need to get a sticker on the windshield.
He also didnt like one of the tie rod ends, which I will replace before the Rally.
This truck is going to West Va, sticker or not.
Does anyone know the years they used this axle? I have some newer (early sixties) manuals that I will check to see if they discuss it.
Thanks in advance,
Tim
