SUV's (crossovers) are the vast predominate percentage sold in the USA and growing! Outside of the Prius, few Toyota's get 30 mpg, The Dodge Caliber and Jeep Patriot get better mileage than do most Toyotas. The issue is provincial thinking on the part of uniformed consumers, poor perception of quality and a bad marketing program.
Chrysler has hired the American CEO of Toyota and the Toyota head of Marketing. Look for things to change soon and quickly.
By this time next year, you're going to be hearing a lot about 30 and 40 MPG Dodges and Jeeps which are diesel powered.
Dodge will start delivering the Hemi Hybrid in a few weeks......
