That reminds me of one other good reason to switch to disks. They're not making those old drums any more and you can't buy relined shoes at the local auto-mart. If you've got a rig that needs all new drums and shoes, you're looking at serious money these days. That alone might tip the balance in favor of disks. Personally, I'm okay with the drums, partly because I'm cheap, and partly because I really like to keep everything stock if possible.

It also depends on the use of your truck. It's one thing to lose your service brakes as 20 mph on a logging road in the woods. It's quite another to loose them on the freeway in rush-hour traffic when the lady in front of you slams on her SUV's anti-lock disk brakes and she goes from 60 mph to stopped in about 3 seconds. If I had an M37 or PW in such good shape that it was a "daily driver" in city traffic, I'd probably feel more like you do about the brakes.
